A peaceful evening on the bay, passing on a family tradition, one cousin to another.

WHAT’S DRIVING THE MARKET?  Our local real estate market has shown its strength yet again, with 132 properties currently under contract.  What has been driving the market?  Several important factors:

  • Demand for properties remains very strong as buyers seek close-to-home vacation options that don’t involve flights or long-distance travel.  Vacationing at your own shore property is an ideal way for you and your family to get away while still social distancing.
  • Inventory has been limited as property owners have been holding on to properties rather than selling, possibly for the same reasons.
  • Stock market gyrations: wild swings in stock indices make real estate–traditionally a more stable investment–much more appealing by comparison.
  • Interest rates: unbelievably low rates–recently between 2.5% and 3.0%–allowing buyers to lock in low financing costs for the duration of their ownership.

PEOPLE PEOPLE HELPS RISTORANTE LUCIANO!  People People, located at 9810 Third Avenue in Stone Harbor, has allowed Ristorante Luciano (9820 Third Avenue) to utilize their outdoor space in order to provide garden seating for outdoor dining.  What a great example of neighbors helping neighbors during unusual and difficult times!  Ristorante Luciano is now open for outdoor dining in addition to take out!  Be sure to visit People People before or after you dine!  Many other restaurants are offering outdoor dining too, including (but not limited to) The Watering Hull, Fred’s Tavern, Jay’s On Third, and Chill.  In Avalon, Polpo, Cafe Loren, The Diving Horse, The Princeton, Sylvester’s, and numerous others are offering outdoor dining.  Give them a try!

GET OUT ON THE WATER!  Aside from the beach, there is no better way to enjoy life at the shore than being out on the water!  Even if you don’t own a boat, there are many great ways to get out on the water, and we’ll highlight several of them in the coming weeks.  Here’s a look at two great options: the Miss Avalon and the Avalon Lady.  The Miss Avalon departs twice daily for ocean fishing, while the Avalon Lady specializes in back bay fishing.  If fishing is not your thing, the Miss Avalon offers evening dolphin & nature cruises twice weekly, allowing you to enjoy views of Avalon only available from the water.  Visit www.missavalon.com for details and schedules.

AVALON’S BEACHES will be closed nightly from 9pm to 4am, and the boardwalk will be closed from 11pm to 4am, per an executive order from Mayor Martin Pagliughi.  The closures are designed to prevent groups of minors from gathering at these locations while violating local and state orders requiring social distancing and the wearing of masks.

SHIPWRECK LECTURE: with an estimated three thousand shipwrecks off the New Jersey coast, there’s plenty to learn about!  The Avalon History Center invites you to join Professor Stephen Nagiewicz for a virtual discussion of the sunken mysteries lying off the beach on Tuesday, July 21st, at 6pm.  Register via the History Center’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/967867680322545/
