Our fall weather has been delightful—and perfect for quiet moments on the beach!

TWO GREAT WAYS TO HELP!  If you love Seven Mile Island, consider helping out by volunteering for an upcoming Fall Beach Sweep in Avalon or Stone Harbor, or by helping with the Fall Dune Grass Planting in Avalon.  Both annual events are great ways to help maintain and improve the island we all love!  See my Upcoming Events list below for dates and details on how to volunteer.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS can be helpful in times of extreme weather events.  Both Avalon and Stone Harbor offer free Reverse 9-1-1 systems to notify residents and property owners about storms, potential flooding, and other emergencies.  To sign up visit https://www.avalonboro.org/911/ or https://stoneharbornj.org/emergency-notification-system/ to enter your cell phone and local address.

THE 96th STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT project is still moving through the permit process, according to a recent Cape May County Herald article.  According to the article, September 2026 is the current tentative start date, with initial construction work planned “outside the footprint of the current bridge,” with no major impact on traffic.  That phase will conclude in the spring of 2027 to allow for summer traffic; fall 2027 would see the use of a temporary fixed span begin, allowing traffic to flow, but restricting vessel passage to only those that can fit under the temporary fixed span.  The article did not provide an expected completion date for the new drawbridge.  Herald subscribers can read the article here: https://capemaycountyherald.com/article/stone-harbor-gets-update-on-96th-street-bridge/?

2026 RENTALS are already being booked!  The sun has hardly set on the 2025 rental season, but we’re already hard at work on 2026!  Tenants, did you know you can reserve your preferred time in a vacation property at no cost or obligation until the 2026 rates come in?  Rental property owners, if you haven’t provided me with your 2026 rates yet, it’s time!

  • Rescheduled Thursdays at Surfside: Still Surfin’. Bring your beach chairs and blankets for the concert with Still Surfin’! Surfside Park, Saturday, September 27th, 3pm to 5pm.  In the event of inclement weather the concert will move into Community Hall.
  • Music with Friends: A Concert to Benefit A Friend In Need.  Live music featuring Marnie & Nate, Out of Order, Short Wave, The Collective, and Maintenance (Gordon Vincent).  Lazy Bass Bayside Bar & Grill, North Wildwood, Saturday, September 27th, 1pm to 6pm.  A $10 donation at the door supports those in need within our community.
  • Bob Baxter Memorial Golf Invitational, The Shore Club, Cape May Court House, Monday, October 6th.  For info visit www.familypromisecmc.org/events
  • Avalon Arts & Seafood Festival.  Fresh, local seafood, live music, artisan craft and décor vendors.  Saturday, October 11th.
  • Stone Harbor Classic & Vintage Car Show.  200 block of 96th Street, Saturday, October 11th, 10am to 1pm.
