CONTAINERS
Containers shall be plainly labeled with the address and unit number of the property to which it belongs. ALL CONTAINERS MUST CLEARLY DISPLAY A STICKER IDENTIFYING IT’S CONTENTS. Stickers for recyclables and trash may be obtained at the Public Works Office at 14th Street & Dune Drive, 15th Street Recycle Center and the Avalon Borough Hall at 3100 Dune Drive. The borough does not supply trash/recycling containers. Use of plastic bags for trash is also strictly prohibited unless inside a container with a secure lid. Recycling containers are required to have a secure lid as well.
CURBSIDE PICKUP AND SIDE YARD RETURN FOR TRASH AND RECYCLABLES PLEASE NOTE
The County of Cape May will implement a new single-stream recycling policy that allows you to put your recyclables in one container. As of April 1 common household papers, plastics, beverage and food cans, and glass bottles can go into one container. You are permitted an unlimited number of recycle containers for collection. Items that cannot be recycled include beverage cups, paint cans, food contaminated boxes, light bulbs, PVC pipes, styrofoam, etc. Visit www.avalonboro.org.
TRASH AND RECYCLABLES
Trash and Recyclables are to be placed curbside by 7 AM. Trash and recycling will not be collected on these holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. By Ordinance No. 679-2013, the following container sizes may be used: (a) 5 containers not to exceed 35 gallon capacity and not to exceed 50 lbs. in weight each; OR (b) 5 containers not to exceed 40 gallon capacity each; OR (c) 4 containers not to exceed 50 gallon capacity each; OR (d) 3 containers not to exceed 65 gallon capacity each; OR (e) 2 containers not to exceed 96 gallon capacity each. THERE IS NO LIMIT OF THE ABOVE SIZED CONTAINERS FOR RECYCLING ONLY. Containers in lines (b), (c), (d), and (e) above shall be used only if such receptacles or containers are of the roll-out type and suitably equipped and capable of being serviced or handled by collection vehicles which are equipped with tipper/kicker arms. As a courtesy, PLEASE DO NOT put cans in Street. No Bulk Items (household furnishings, construction materials) will be collected with trash.
BRUSH AND GRASS CLIPPINGS must be loose inside of a container with lid & marked YARD WASTE. Pickup will be on Thursdays. Use of plastic bags or paper bags for clippings is prohibited. When cleaning up leaves or grass, do not put them in the street.
WHITE GOODS/METAL/RIGID PLASTIC AND ELECTRONICS shall be scheduled for a pickup on Friday’s by calling Public Works at 609-967-7697 prior to Friday’s pick up.
SINGLE STREAM IS MANDATORY. Please recycle (a) all newspapers with inserts, magazines, junk mail, cardboard, office paper, shoe, cereal, and food boxes together with (b) all rinsed glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, and household plastic bottles with a 1 through 7 on the bottom of the container(s). Container lids must be removed from recyclable containers and are considered trash. Use of plastic bags for recycling is strictly prohibited.
BULK ITEMS Borough bulk trash should be set out from: April 29 – May 8 and September 2 – September 11. Pickup will begin after 7 AM – May 9th and September 12th.
Construction and remodeling materials are not collected at any time of the year.
THE COURTESY TRASH AND RECYCLE DROP OFF CENTER is located at 15th Street entrance to the Public Works yard, off of Dune Drive. Drop off your trash and single stream recyclables daily between 7 AM and 3 PM. The center s closed only Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
PAPER SHREDDING DAY will be May 7, 2022 from 9 AM until 2 PM at the Avalon Public Works Building.
Effective October 1, 2019, shredded paper/hard rigid plastics are NOT recyclable.
