Trash/Recycling Routes
Section #1 (North) Inlet to 23rd Street (up to but not including 23rd Street)- Mondays Only
Section #2 (Middle) 23rd Street to 42nd Street (up to but not including 42nd Street)- Tuesdays Only
Section #3 (South) 42nd Street to North Side of 80th Street – Wednesdays Only

(All sections are from bay to ocean)

Trash Collection Routes
Section #1 – (North) Inlet to 23rd Street (up to but not including 23rd Street) –Monday and Thursday
Section #2 – (Middle) 23rd Street to 42nd Street (up to but not including 42nd Street) —Tuesday and Friday
Section #3 – (South) 42nd Street to North Side of 80th Street — Wednesday and Saturday

Any calls for missed trash, recycle or yard waste should be directed to Pinelands, 609-263-1997.  All other calls can be directed to Public Works 609-967-7697, Monday – Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

CURBSIDE PICKUP AND SIDEYARD RETURN FOR TRASH AND RECYCLABLES.  Return of Empty Containers with Lids at side of the building in an inconspicuous location

1.  TRASH AND RECYCLABLES

Trash and Recyclables are to be placed curbside by 7 AM. As a courtesy, PLEASE DO NOT put cans in the Street. NO BULK ITEMS (household furnishings, construction materials, or carpet) will be collected with Trash.

2.  NEW FOR 2025 — BATTRY RECYCLING/DISPOSAL PROGRAM — COMING IN FEBRUARY.  Batteries may be brought to the Public Works Recycling Center on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  This includes all single-use and re-chargeable batteries, such as alkaline (AA, 9V, etc.), button cell, lithium ion, as well as batteries used in cordless power tools, computers, etc.  Please refer to the battery recycling guide on the Borough’s website or call Public Works with any questions.   *** NOT ACCEPTED:  Damaged or recalled batteries, car/marine batteries***  Proper disposal instructions will be provided upon arrival.

3.  BRUSH AND GRASS CLIPPINGS must be loose inside of a container with lid.  Pickup will be on Thursdays.    The followng exceptions will apply:  The week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day, pickup will occur on FRIDAY.  Use of plastic bags or paper bags for clippings is prohibited.  When cleaning up leaves or grass, do not put them in the street.

***YARD WASTE CONTAINERS MUST CLEARLY DISPLAY A STICKER IDENTIFYING IT’S CONTENTS.  Stickers for yard waste may be obtained at Public Works Office at 14th Street & Dune Drive, 15th Street Recycle Center, and the Avalon Borough Hall at 3100 Dune Drive.

4.  APPLIANCES/METAL/RIGID PLASTIC AND ELECTRONICS can be scheduled for a TUESDAY pickup, by calling Public Works at 609-967-7697, prior to Monday afternoon at 3 pm.

5.  SINGLE STREAM IS MANDATORY.   Please recycle the following products:  Newspapers (with inserts), magazines, office paper, junk mail, telephone & paperback books, corrugated cardboard, Kraft grocery bags and chipboard (such as dry food boxes with liners removed, pizza boxes& powdered detergent boxes).  All rinsed glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, and household plastic bottles with a 1 through 7 on the bottom of the container(s).  Remove the caps and lids for bottles, jars, and jugs and place in the trash.  Use of plastic bags for recycling is strictly prohibited.

NOTE:  Plastic bags, shredded paper and hard rigid plastics are NOT recyclable.

6.  BULK TRASH:  Scheduled 2 times per year: 

     a.  Place items curbside from May 2 to May 11, for pickup to begin at 7 am on May 12. 

     b.  Place items curbside August 29-September 7, for pickup to begin at 7 am on September 8.

Construction and remodeling materials are not collected at any time of the year.

7.  THE COURTESY TRASH AND RECYCLE DROP OFF CENTER  is located at 15th Street entrance to the Public Works yard, off of Dune Drive.  Drop off your trash and single stream recyclables daily between 7 AM and 3 PM.  The center s closed only Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

8.  PAPER SHREDDING DAY will be May 10, 2025,  from 9 AM until 2 PM at the Avalon Public Works Building.
