SAVOR SEPTEMBER…IN OCTOBER! This weekend brings food, live music, local breweries and wineries, artisans, and more to the Stone Harbor business district on Saturday, October 21st, from 11am to 6pm. Enjoy it all on 96th Street, and visit local merchants while you’re there!
BEACHES & DUNES are vitally important to our island for a variety of reasons. Not only do we all enjoy time spent on the beach, but they, along with the dunes, protect the island in the event of major storms. This weekend offers two opportunities for helping to protect our beautiful beaches and dunes!
AVALON’S ANNUAL DUNE GRASS PLANTING event takes place on Saturday, October 21st. Volunteers can help plant sprigs of dune grass, which grow roots to help stabilize the dune system, protecting the island during storms. See the events list below for registration information.
BEACH SWEEPS also take place this weekend in Avalon and Stone Harbor, on Saturday, October 21st. Volunteers are needed to help collect plastic and other trash from our local beaches. The twice-annual beach sweeps are held along the New Jersey coast, and last year volunteers removed hundreds of thousands of items from beaches. Registration information is below.

- Sea Isle City Halloween Parade, 45th Street & Landis Avenue to JFK Boulevard, Friday, October 20th, 7pm to 8pm. DJ dance party at Excursion Park after the parade.
- Avalon Fall Dune Grass Planting, Saturday, October 21st, 8:30am. Volunteers should report to Avalon Community Hall at 8:30am that day for a brief planting demonstration. After planting work is completed, lunch will be provided at Community Hall. Volunteers should RSVP to Chuck McDonnell at 609-967-3066 or Sue Keen at 609-967-5924 to sign up. In the event of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, October 22nd.
